Craig Murray, apprentice software engineer, hasn’t been at Barclays for long – but has already come far.
The Barclays apprenticeship caught my eye because it promised hands-on experience in a professional environment. Now that I’m in the job, I can say that it’s living up to the promise.
Unlike a start-up, Barclays provides a clear support system with long-term growth potential – ideal for someone like me.
I’m gaining the real-world experiences and my role gives me the chance to meaningfully contribute every day to our customers’ experience.
As an apprentice, I’m already working on systems that handle millions of customer transactions. The sheer scale of it all challenges me to improve and think smarter. I’m currently on a project to simplify workflows and reduce delays in the business. Again, hands-on work with real effects.
All the while, I’m supported by experienced engineers who generously share their time and knowledge. Their help puts wind in my sails to improve with each project. In no time, my colleagues have become my mates.
I’m getting everything I need to meet my aim of becoming a skilled developer who can solve real business challenges, build scalable software, and improve internal processes.
