Georgia Lewis, a Technical Product Owner, recommends Barclays to anyone looking for a career in innovation.
I joined Barclays back in 2013. (I can’t believe it’s that long ago!) In the years since, the business has come to feel as much like a tech company as a bank.
That means technologists like me are at the heart of things – improving the products and services that millions of people rely on every day.
The streamlining of our CI/CD process is a great example of my work. In layman’s terms, it’s about accelerating software delivery so that new features and bug fixes reach customers faster. But speed is no use without security. That’s why all our work is subject to thorough testing and security checks – so higher performance comes with peace of mind for our customers.
Barclays’ investment in AI is speeding up delivery even more. It’s also changing the nature of the work I do – for the better. AI can now pick up many of my more manual tasks, so I can prioritise the strategic and creative aspects of the job.
With all that said, my job’s a constant learning curve. Our monthly ‘3 to Learn’ sessions, which let colleagues in different teams share new knowledge, are one way that I keep on top of the ever-changing tech landscape. Barclays is proof that innovative results are the product of an innovative culture.
But innovation is only important for what it does, and who it serves. My 12 years at Barclays have taught me that it’s the company’s focus on people – colleagues and customers alike – that lays the foundation of our success.
