Neha Mittal, a Software Engineer, has filled her boots with development opportunities at Barclays – and says any new colleague should do the same.
I’d planned to study Law at university. But then the chance of a Barclays apprenticeship came along. The blend of learning and working really appealed to me. So, I changed my plans.
It was the best decision I ever made. At Barclays, I’ve had structured career progression. Startups tend to lack these opportunities, while the tech giants are often too impersonal. But my growth here has been planned and personalised, not left to chance.
Today, my knowledge and skills training continue to evolve at pace. Workshops like Test-Drive Development and sessions with senior leaders have pushed me to think about problems more creatively and take more responsibility.
Every day presents a different technical challenge – from security to automation to customer experience. All complex in their own ways, and all helping to shape how global systems run. That’s what makes this tech job so rewarding: its impact in the real world.
My progress through the business has a lot to do with the development opportunities I’ve received. That’s why I want to give back by mentoring others and passing on my knowledge to them.
