Barclays Business, Customer and Retail Banking Graduate Programme gives you the opportunity to build real expertise through meaningful rotations across our core areas, including Retail Banking, Customer and Digital, Business Banking and more. Each rotation is designed to deepen your understanding of how we deliver for customers—giving you hands-on experience of the products, journeys, and decisions that impact millions of people every day.
You’ll move through three 8-month rotations, working on live business challenges such as improving customer journeys and enhancing digital experiences.
The programme is designed to broaden your skills aligned to Barclays Retail, Business and Customer Banking and broader, allowing you to build confidence, capability, and clarity in your career within Barclays.
By the end of the programme, you’ll have developed a well-rounded understanding of Barclays Retail, Business and Customer Banking, a strong network, and the expertise needed to continue in your permanent role where you can continue to make a real impact.
Through structured rotations and real business experience, you’ll turn insight into impact—building the expertise to shape the future of everyday banking.

Business, Customer and Retail Banking is a multifaceted area of Barclays, offering opportunities across customer experience, business banking, specialist customer care, product development, strategy, operations, and data-driven decision making. You'll have the opportunity to work with teams focused on helping millions of customers and businesses achieve their financial goals through innovative products, digital experiences, and exceptional service.
BUK Centre
BUK Centre gives you the opportunity to see how the business is run behind the scenes. This function provides the strategic, operational, governance and enabling support that helps Barclays Business, Customer & Digital Banking operate effectively, safely and in line with its priorities.
You can think of BUK Centre as the engine room behind the frontline: the teams that bring together insight, planning, control and delivery to enable better outcomes for customers and colleagues. Depending on your placement, you could gain exposure to teams such as Strategy, Chief of Staff, Business Management, Governance, Controls, Risk, Transformation, Planning and Performance, or colleague-focused enablement teams.
Business Banking
Business Banking at Barclays Business, Customer & Retail Banking focuses on helping UK businesses start, grow and succeed. From supporting entrepreneurs and SMEs to working with established companies, you’ll help deliver financial solutions that make a real difference to the UK economy. Graduates and interns in Business Banking gain exposure to relationship management, lending, risk and growth initiatives – learning how strategic, customer led decisions support businesses at every stage of their journey. You could gain exposure to areas such as Relationship Management, Lending, Product, Client Strategy, Business Growth, Commercial Performance, Risk and Controls, or sector-focused teams supporting specific customer groups. This is a strong route if you are interested in customer-led decision making, commercial insight and understanding how banking can help businesses thrive.
Customer Care
Customer Care sits at the heart of how Barclays supports its customers. This is where problem solving, empathy and innovation come together to create great customer experiences. As a graduate, you might work on improving services, resolving complex queries, or shaping better outcomes for customers, while building strong communication, resilience and leadership skills that are valuable across any career path. You could gain exposure to teams such as Complaints, Customer Resolutions, Vulnerable Customer Support, Service Improvement, Operations, Quality Assurance, Customer Experience, Fraud Support or Process Transformation. These experiences can help you build strong communication, judgement, resilience and leadership skills while giving you a direct view of what matters most to customers.
Customer and Digital
Customer and Digital teams focus on how customers interact with Barclays through digital platforms, data and technology. This includes improving apps and online journeys, using data to understand customer needs, and driving digital transformation across the bank. For graduates, this is an opportunity to work on modern, tech enabled solutions, develop future ready skills and help shape how banking evolves in a digital first world.
You could work with teams such as Digital Product, Data and Analytics, Customer Journeys, Personalisation, Digital Engagement, Channel Strategy, Transformation, Product Management or Design and Delivery. This is a great fit if you are curious about customer behaviour, digital innovation and how technology can shape the future of banking.
Retail Banking
Retail Banking supports millions of personal customers across the UK with their everyday banking needs. From savings and mortgages to financial wellbeing and fraud prevention, this is frontline banking with real social impact. Graduates in Retail Banking help improve products, processes, and customer journeys, gaining insight into how a large-scale bank balances innovation, regulation, and customer trust. You could be placed in teams such as Mortgages, Savings, Everyday Banking, Financial Health, Fraud and Scams, Product, Customer Strategy, Distribution, Branch and Local Market Support, or Performance and Transformation. These areas give you the chance to understand how Barclays balances customer needs, commercial performance, responsible banking and regulatory expectations at scale.
