Our Operations and Technology teams are at the heart of every innovation at Barclays, from driving and optimising smooth transaction processing for millions of customers and clients around the world to building and deploying ground-breaking platforms propelling our business forward. The Chief Security Office exists to protect the bank and its clients, customers and colleagues. We are here to shield the bank from external and internal threats, and every day presents new challenges. These range from cyber-crime, terrorism, viruses, world events and protesters, to the effects of adverse weather conditions and even upheaval in the external economic climate. We protect people, property and technology. As the world around us changes, we are prepared and ready to respond – our work might not always be visible, but we are always there, always vigilant. This makes our work endlessly interesting, meaningful and challenging. We keep the bank, customers, clients and colleagues safe, secure and always on.

What to expect

Our two-year Explorer Programme is a deep dive into Operations at Barclays. As an analyst, you’ll enjoy structured rotations throughout your programme. You’ll get insight into our inner workings and what goes into efficient, painless processing – whether it’s for investment transactions or personal credit cards. And you’ll get exposure to the whole bank – giving you the opportunity to build a strong network and great prospects for development.

This essential work is down to our five Operations teams, each of which can provide you with unique insights and experiences as you begin your career with Barclays.

  • Investment Operations

    Investment Operations provides fast, reliable and secure financial services to a large client base across Barclays' Private Bank and Wealth divisions. Investment Operations’ wide-spanning coverage of Barclays’ operational structure provides a wealth of experience and knowledge: you can expect a varied and interesting role that will provide you with a great springboard for the rest of your career.

  • Client Reporting

    Client Reporting focuses on providing clients with timely, accurate and consolidated reports on how their assets are performing. Here, you’ll get the opportunity to develop your knowledge of financial reporting standards, as well as learning how we provide clients with a high-quality service that meets their expectations.

  • Client and Account Opening

    Client and Account Opening focuses on opening and maintaining different types of accounts for clients in the Private Bank and Wealth Management divisions. This is an interesting area to work in as you’ll learn about different clients and their specific needs whilst also developing an understanding of manual processing and automation projects.

  • CASS Operations Risk and Control

    CASS Operations Risk and Control aims to increase risk awareness across the bank by promoting best practices and educating colleagues on how to assess, control and mitigate risk. You’ll get involved in a wide range of activities with various departments, including examining the risks associated with change projects and investigating breaches. You’ll build your knowledge fast and start to expand your network at Barclays.

  • Lending Operations

    Lending Operations helps the bank to centralise, standardise and enhance its daily lending processes. Here, you’ll learn the start to end processes and become a subject matter expert in each stage of the lending process. You’ll expand your knowledge of the operations function and develop your transferable skills through exposure to processing tasks, project work and the other teams within the department.

What to expect

Our Technology Explorer programme is an immersive, hands-on, two-year programme. As an analyst, you’ll enjoy structured rotations throughout your programme, with one rotation potentially taking you into a related team. Working with business areas to understand their needs and convey them to teams of developers, you’ll help drive forward change and help us find innovative solutions to complex problems. You’ll join the team behind some of the industry’s biggest innovations – from the first talking ATM to Blockchain and Siri payments– and see bold ideas transformed into practical, real-life solutions.

How you’ll develop

You’ll learn continually, from start to finish – whether it’s the hard skills you need to be brilliant at your job, or the professional skills to be brilliant in a business of this size, we give you the essential learning experiences you need to play a full role in Barclays. At all times you’ll be supported by an experienced line manager who will help you realise your potential and discover where you’d like your career journey to take you in Barclays. You’ll be surrounded by colleagues you can share with and learn from. What to expect

Join our Cyber Security team within the Chief Security Office, and you’ll have the opportunity to play a key part in keeping our customers, clients and colleagues safe from cyber-crime. This is a team in which everyone is focused on defending the bank: some are proactive, researching potential threats from hackers, while others play a reactive role in which they respond to incidents that might challenge our security. To gain maximum benefit from your graduate programme, you’ll experience many aspects of our work over a two-year period. You can expect three rotations around a variety of teams which might include Cyber & Physical Security, Resilience, Crisis Management, Security Operations and Intelligence and more. This is an exciting place to be: hackers constantly attempt to find new ways to threaten our security, and we never rest in learning new ways to prevent them. We’re one of the strongest banks for Cyber Security, and this is your opportunity to learn from the best.
