You’ll help institutional investors, like governments and pension funds, to identify market opportunities, manage risk and generate returns for their portfolios in a world of constant change. By doing so, you’ll facilitate the flow of finance that drives the world economy; helping the businesses all around us to grow and innovate.

Research is an ideas factory. We dig deep into the underlying factors that affect the world’s financial markets and provide insights that empower our clients to take key strategic and investment decisions. Research is a centre of subject-matter expertise on the companies, markets and securities that we cover, delivering real time intelligence and long-term vision. It’s vital to the performance of our global investment bank.

About the role

What to expect

Our two-year Markets Expert Programme focuses on helping you develop specialist expertise in your chosen discipline. Following intensive training, you’ll go straight into a sales, trading or structuring role on a specific desk, where you’ll rapidly build up your knowledge of global markets, as well as your quantitative and analytical skills, through live work including analysing data and developing solutions, monitoring markets and formulating trade ideas, and attending meetings with clients and colleagues. You’ll interact closely with our Legal, Compliance and Quantitative business areas. And you’ll quickly build professional acumen, a great internal network, and a solid understanding of different roles within the bank. From early on, you’ll be exposed to everything from product pricing to proprietary Index Development and managing risk of the team’s trading books.

You’ll receive personalised support from a line manager who is committed to your success, fostering your development, so you can explore, grow, and achieve mastery. Together, they’ll help you to explore, develop and achieve mastery. And we’ll encourage you to learn, at your own pace, all the skills and techniques you need to thrive in the world of Data and Analytics at Barclays. Our vast suite of learning materials will always be at your fingertips. You’ll be surrounded by colleagues you can share with and learn from. You’ll gain membership of our global graduate network, with exclusive access to content, events and forums to support you and help you develop. Who thrives here

With a Masters or PhD in a technical discipline such as Finance, Econometrics or Operations Research, you must have strong quantitative skills, including statistics and time series analysis. You should also be comfortable programming with Python, Matlab, SAS, Eviews and Excel VBA. You’ll be curious and creative, agile and adaptable.
