The CCX Tribe Director is accountable for end-to-end delivery, strategic alignment, and value realisation of the Client & Colleague Experience (CCX) tribe, with a specific focus on driving large-scale transformation initiatives. The role ensures that cross-tribe delivery, platform capabilities, and client-centric outcomes are executed in alignment with PBWM and Group strategic objectives.

Operating within a complex, multi-platform and multi-dependency ecosystem, the Tribe Director provides leadership across engineering, product, and delivery functions to:

  • Define and execute the tribe strategy and roadmap, ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture, regulatory requirements, and business priorities
  • Orchestrate delivery across multiple squads, platforms, and external partners, managing interlocks and dependencies across tribes, systems, and programmes such as PRISM.
  • Drive delivery at scale across key technology domains (e.g., Salesforce, Data, GenAI, integration and orchestration services), ensuring cohesive and integrated solutions.
  • Ensure governance, risk, and control adherence, embedding engineering excellence, cyber, and regulatory standards across all tribe deliverables.
  • Own financial outcomes and resource strategy, optimising investment utilisation, vendor engagement, and capacity planning to achieve delivery outcomes.
  • Lead senior stakeholder engagement, providing transparency on delivery, risks, and outcomes to PBWM leadership and ensuring alignment across business and technology.
  • Foster a high-performing, agile organisation, enabling squads to deliver customer-centric solutions while promoting a strong engineering and delivery culture.

Ultimately, the role is responsible for translating strategic transformation goals into tangible technology and client outcomes, while managing complexity, scale, and risk across the CCX landscape.

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead and develop high‑performing engineering teams, fostering a strong culture of engineering excellence, collaboration and accountability.
  • Own and execute the engineering roadmap for the CCX platform, aligning frontend, backend‑for‑frontend and core API services to PBWM CCX technology strategy and Private Bank client experience objectives.
  • Drive modern client and colleague experiences using Angular, React, JavaScript/TypeScript, and Java‑based API and microservices architectures.
  • Maintain significant hands‑on engagement to provide technical leadership through architecture design, framework development, code and design reviews, and hands‑on contribution where complexity or acceleration is required.
  • Apply CCX and Private Bank domain understanding to translate client onboarding, servicing and lifecycle needs into intuitive, scalable and secure digital experiences.
  • Design and evolve organization‑wide UI frameworks, shared components and engineering standards to enable consistency, reuse and rapid delivery across CCX platforms.
  • Ensure strong backend‑to‑frontend integration patterns, API design and performance to support scalable, resilient and compliant client journeys.
  • Collaborate closely with Product Owners, UX designers, CCX SMEs, Architects and Operations teams to ensure strong functional, technical and experience alignment.
  • Be accountable for delivery outcomes across quality, time, cost and risk, and act as senior escalation point for complex delivery and production issues.
  • Ensure all engineering activities comply with regulatory requirements, Enterprise‑Wide Risk Management Framework and Barclays policies and standards.

Essential Skills

  • Strong engineering leadership experience across frontend and full‑stack platforms in complex, regulated environments.
  • High‑level understanding of the CCX domain and Private Bank & Wealth Management business, including onboarding and client journeys.
  • Deep hands‑on experience with Angular, React, JavaScript/TypeScript and modern UI engineering practices.
  • Strong experience designing and building Java‑based APIs and microservices, including backend‑for‑frontend patterns.
  • Proven experience creating and governing shared frameworks, platforms or colleague‑facing engineering capabilities at scale.
  • Solid understanding of API design, performance optimization, security and integration patterns.
  • Experience working across Agile delivery models and multi‑team organizational structures.
  • Ability to balance hands‑on technical contribution with team leadership and delivery accountability.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to communicate effectively across technical and business audiences.
  • Understanding of operational resilience, vulnerability management and production support considerations.
  • Good experience with mobile technologies and mobile‑first design principles.

Purpose of the role

To  lead and manage engineering teams, providing technical guidance, mentorship, and support to ensure the delivery of high-quality software solutions, driving technical excellence, fostering a culture of innovation, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to align technical decisions with business objectives. 

Accountabilities

  • Lead engineering teams effectively, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture to achieve project goals and meet organizational objectives.
  • Oversee timelines, team allocation, risk management and task prioritization to ensure the successful delivery of solutions within scope, time, and budget.
  • Mentor and support team members' professional growth, conduct performance reviews, provide actionable feedback, and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Evaluation and enhancement of engineering processes, tools, and methodologies to increase efficiency, streamline workflows, and optimize team productivity.
  • Collaboration with business partners, product managers, designers, and other stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions and ensure a cohesive approach to product development.
  • Enforcement of technology standards, facilitate peer reviews, and implement robust testing practices to ensure the delivery of high-quality solutions.

Director Expectations

  • To manage a business function, providing significant input to function wide strategic initiatives. Contribute to and influence policy and procedures for the function and plan, manage and consult on multiple complex and critical strategic projects, which may be business wide..
  • They manage the direction of a large team or sub-function, leading other people managers and embedding a performance culture aligned to the values of the business. Or for an individual contributor, they lead organisation wide projects and act as deep technical expert and thought leader, identifying new ways of working and collaborating cross functionally. They will train, guide and coach less experienced specialists and provide information affecting long term profits, organisational risks and strategic decisions..
  • Provide expert advice to senior functional management and committees to influence decisions made outside of own function, offering significant input to function wide strategic initiatives.
  • Manage, coordinate and enable resourcing, budgeting and policy creation for a significant sub-function.
  • Escalates breaches of policies / procedure appropriately.
  • Foster and guide compliance, ensure regulations are observed that relevant processes in place to facilitate adherence.
  • Focus on the external environment, regulators, or advocacy groups to both monitor and influence on behalf of Barclays, when appropriate.
  • Demonstrate extensive knowledge of how the function integrates with the business division / Group to achieve the overall business objectives.
  • Maintain broad and comprehensive knowledge of industry theories and practices within own discipline alongside up-to-date relevant sector / functional knowledge, and insight into external market developments / initiatives.
  • Use interpretative thinking and advanced analytical skills to solve problems and design solutions in often complex/ sensitive situations.
  • Exercise management authority to make significant decisions and certain strategic decisions or recommendations within own area.
  • Negotiate with and influence stakeholders at a senior level both internally and externally.
  • Act as principal contact point for key clients and counterparts in other functions/ businesses divisions.
  • Mandated as a spokesperson for the function and business division.
