Essential Skills/Basic Qualifications:

  • Track record and experience of business building and growth in Corporate Subsidiaries across sectors, with a proven ability to manage complex and relentless change
  • Knowledge of complex Corporate Banking product suite including Debt, Trade and Working Capital, Cash and transactional products and FX;
  • Broad knowledge of risk management and control
  • International experience is particularly valuable.
  • Fluent in business English with additional languages being a plus.

  • Contribute toward, develop and execute a strategy to drive major change.
  • Drive towards a target operating model and respond to changes in the external environment.

  • Strong knowledge of credit and market risk management, internal control systems and financial control systems.
  • Ability to effectively manage reputational risks to protect and build the Barclays brand.

Purpose of the role

The Director will be responsible for helping to develop and implement the new Subsidiary Coverage model across Europe, assuming Regional Relationship responsibilities for new and existing clients and identifying new corridor revenue opportunities, with an increased focus on our top Corporate Banking clients.

Accountabilities

  • Developing and implementing clear client strategies for inbound activity into Europe, focussing on Diamond and Platinum clients.
  • Empowered ownership of a broad book of new and existing Corporate client relationships across Europe.
  • Management and direction of a team or sub-function, leading other people managers and embedding a performance culture aligned to the values of the business.
  • Working closely with fellow Regional Directors, Group partners in Corporate Bank, Investment Bank, Barclaycard, Wealth and Barclays UK to ensure client strategy is defined and executed in a way which delivers maximum value for Barclays Group and our clients.
  • Deliver on strategic and ad hoc projects.
  • Participate in business development activities with the broader market and KPIs
  • Stakeholder Management and Leadership

  • Strong communicator with good leadership skills being able to engage and partner across Barclays. Demonstrate emotional intelligence in dealings with clients and colleagues.
  • Working closely with LTBs and IB coverage to ensure coordinated coverage of key clients, joint CIB client plans and agreement on the most effective CIB allocation and usage of capital for clients.
  • High impact - ability to influence others, for the benefit of the business. Challenge the ‘norm’ in order to ensure more effective ways of delivering to clients.
  • Ability to engage effectively and with impact at a senior level internally and within client organisations up to C-Suite level.
  • Develop constructive and influential senior relationships with key business partners specifically:
  • Portfolio
  • Credit
  • Compliance
  • ICB country leadership teams and specifically Western Europe CIB senior country management to communicate strategy, resourcing and execution plans for the market.
  • Decision-making and Problem Solving

  • Comfortable dealing with large volumes of structured and un-structured data to develop strategic options and potential execution plans.
  • Well-developed business development skills.
  • Consistently hitting or exceeding business targets and delivering the execution of strategies.
  • Experienced banker – having operated to Director level in a previous role with broad product knowledge focussing on large, sophisticated multinational corporates and regional treasury centres.
  • Professional, values driven approach, and lead by example. Sphere of influence significant especially when successfully managing change.
  • Demonstrates insight and initiative when approaching challenges and be driven to consistently deliver high performance.
  • Capacity to understand market dynamics and to adjust Barclays’ industry strategy and focus from a business development and risk perspective.
  • Key awareness of regulatory, political and reputational sensitivities attaching to clients and industry segments and ability to align the firm’s values accordingly.
  • Technically sound and able to analyse situations to create best outcome for Barclays and the client. Regular exposure to complex clients and situations.

Director Expectations

  • To manage a business function, providing significant input to function wide strategic initiatives. Contribute to and influence policy and procedures for the function and plan, manage and consult on multiple complex and critical strategic projects, which may be business wide..
  • They manage the direction of a large team or sub-function, leading other people managers and embedding a performance culture aligned to the values of the business. Or for an individual contributor, they lead organisation wide projects and act as deep technical expert and thought leader, identifying new ways of working and collaborating cross functionally. They will train, guide and coach less experienced specialists and provide information affecting long term profits, organisational risks and strategic decisions..
  • Provide expert advice to senior functional management and committees to influence decisions made outside of own function, offering significant input to function wide strategic initiatives.
  • Manage, coordinate and enable resourcing, budgeting and policy creation for a significant sub-function.
  • Escalates breaches of policies / procedure appropriately.
  • Foster and guide compliance, ensure regulations are observed that relevant processes in place to facilitate adherence.
  • Focus on the external environment, regulators, or advocacy groups to both monitor and influence on behalf of Barclays, when appropriate.
  • Demonstrate extensive knowledge of how the function integrates with the business division / Group to achieve the overall business objectives.
  • Maintain broad and comprehensive knowledge of industry theories and practices within own discipline alongside up-to-date relevant sector / functional knowledge, and insight into external market developments / initiatives.
  • Use interpretative thinking and advanced analytical skills to solve problems and design solutions in often complex/ sensitive situations.
  • Exercise management authority to make significant decisions and certain strategic decisions or recommendations within own area.
  • Negotiate with and influence stakeholders at a senior level both internally and externally.
  • Act as principal contact point for key clients and counterparts in other functions/ businesses divisions.
  • Mandated as a spokesperson for the function and business division.
