Primary Location:  London - 1 Churchill Place, Canary Wharf

Overall purpose of role

  • Partner with the business to deliver to a Consistently Excellent standard, including driving our strategy, operating with effective control, delivering “lights-on” activities and executing the change and regulatory agenda. Simply put, enabling our business to deliver for our clients, communities and each other. 
  • Support the Head of Coverage and their leadership team to:
    • Maximise business performance through focusing on improved returns, sustainable growth, an excellent control environment, exceeding client satisfaction and having highly engaged colleagues.
    • Set and own the strategy for UK Corporate Banking and as a core component of the Corporate Banking Executive Forum optimise the business opportunities for collaboration across Group & Corporate Banking.
    • Lead and engage the UK Corporate Banking national teams across all segments to deliver the CB UK strategy. Drive inclusion and improvement of our talent bench-strength.
    • Role model the Barclays Values and Mindset.

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead and inspire the UKCB  Coverage Business Management team , engaging with senior stakeholders from across UKCB and the group to achieve UKCB objectives. Ensure support for all “lights on“ activity including overall governance and support to the Head of the Business in achieving their objectives.  Specifically:

Drive Business Performance, Efficiency and Strategy execution

  • Support the Head of the Business and key stakeholders in driving financial and cost performance.
    • Define, track and report on strategy execution
    • Deliver Chief of Staff support for Head of Coverage and leadership team
    • Co-ordinate engagement on Real Estate/Premises strategy, resource allocation, MTP and SI 
    • Provide oversight on central administrative activity

Optimise impacts on coverage through robust change acceptance and communication

  • Coordinate the change agenda across key regulatory and strategic business programmes; whilst considering the capacity of client-facing colleagues
  • Support in developing the internal and external engagement strategy 
  • Support the business response and communication  in a crisis management scenario
  • Lead UKC response to incident/crisis management

Make the business a great place to work

  • Support  “colleagues voice” delivery and delivery of  “Your View” objectives
  • Support delivery and collaboration across UKC People plan area including recognition, well-being, citizenship etc. 
  • Support the UKC Early Careers and Retirement Transition programmes

Protect the business and work closely with our Risk partners and 2 LOD

  • Protect our licence to trade alongside our control partners and 2nd line of defence
  • Plan and oversee management of risk and control related activity and lead UKC response to regulatory change 
  • Review & embed policies and procedures and ensure controls align to our business

Essential

  • Consistently met and exceeded challenging targets.
  • Seasoned Business Manager or experience in supporting a front line business
  • Successful track record or executing change and having influence and impact at a senior level
  • Successful track record of building and developing talented & diverse teams and leaders.
  • Demonstrated ability of challenging the status quo and being curious about new ways of doing business.
  • Exceptional communication & presenting skills.
  • Build strong relationships and endear fellowship across Corporate Banking & Barclays.
  • Act with honesty, trust, integrity & empathy in all dealings and decisions.
  • Proven ability to flex leadership style as needed to get the best out of all individuals.

Purpose of the role

To maximise the growth and success of UK corporate banking. Working collaboratively with colleagues and specialist partners across the group. Leading a team to achieve agreed goals, maximising market opportunity and external brand plus driving income growth, market share growth, through leveraging industry expertise, focus and understanding. 

Accountabilities

  • Development of strategic direction for relationship teams, including the implementation of up to date methodologies and processes.
  • Management of relationship teams, including oversight of colleagues and their performance, implementation of goals and objectives, oversight of efficiency and effectiveness.  .
  • Development and maintenance of strong relationships with the broader Barclays group to promote seamless working across all channels and segments and to support an integrated business planning process.
  • Management of all risk aspects including conduct and credit risk, ensuring all team members are fully compliant to enhance great customer outcomes .
  • Monitoring the financial performance of relationship teams, including revenue, profitability, and cost control.
  • Conducting thorough market research to understand client needs, market trends, competitive landscape, and regulatory changes to identify growth opportunities.
  • Excellent service delivery to customers, consistently meeting their ongoing needs, while operating to required levels of cost.
  • Actively promote a culture of greater diversity and inclusion plus develop talent and succession within the team.

  • To manage a large, complex or diverse function and take accountability for the strategic direction of the function to significantly strengthen successful and efficient businesses and contribute to the strategic initiatives of the Barclays Group

  • Strategically assess and manage risks to protect the business division / function and growth.
  • Influence company policy and develop functional procedures in conjunction with senior leaders / strategic positions across the business.
  • Demonstrate interpretative thinking for innovative solutions in complex situations and conceptual thinking in completely new situations.
  • Exercise management authority to make significant / complex business and strategic decisions that impact the Barclays Group, business division or function.
  • Negotiate with and influence stakeholders at a senior level both internally and externally and foster growth for Barclays business.
  • Mandated as the business division/ functional spokesperson or representative to external bodies and shapes the public image of Barclays.
  • Demonstrate exceptional knowledge of how business divisions and functions integrate with the Group to achieve the overall business objectives alongside industry theories and practices within own discipline.
  • Maintain broad and comprehensive functional expertise and significant product knowledge.
  • Accountable for the control and governance agenda of the business division / function.
  • Focus on the external environment, regulators, or advocacy groups to both monitor and influence on behalf of Barclays.
