A role in Markets involves trading financial instruments, such as bonds, stocks, and derivatives. You'll also arrange capital raisings, manage debt and equity issuances, and structure, execute, and syndicate transactions for clients.

Join Barclays in the role of Senior Trading & Sales Assistant – Macro, where you will directly support the Rates Hedge Fund Sales desk within the front office. Sitting with the desk, you will act as first-line support for Sales, helping to ensure the timely, accurate and controlled capture of new trades and lifecycle events across the relevant trade capture and workflow systems. The role will involve booking new trades on behalf of the desk, pricing and coordinating new trades, unwinds, novations and restructures, and working closely with Sales, Trading, Operations, Legal, Middle Office, Risk and other support teams to resolve client and desk issues quickly and effectively. You will be expected to build a strong network across the relevant functions, understand the full lifecycle of Rates Derivatives trades exceptionally well, and proactively challenge existing processes to identify improvements, reduce risk and strengthen desk support.

To be successful as a Trading and Sales Assistant you should have: 

  • Previous Rates Trading or Sales experience, ideally gained in a front-office or closely aligned Trading and Sales Assistant capacity.
  • Strong knowledge of Interest Rate Derivatives, with the ability to understand, book and support complex trade structures across the full trade lifecycle.
  • Excellent understanding of trade capture, pricing, amendments, unwinds, novations, restructures and post-trade lifecycle events.
  • Strong working knowledge of MarkitWire and the wider workflow required to confirm, process and resolve Rates Derivatives trade issues.
  • High attention to detail, strong risk awareness and the ability to operate accurately under pressure in a fast-paced client and sales environment.

Other highly valued skills and experience: 

  • Ability to quickly build a strong internal network across Sales, Trading, Operations, Middle Office, Legal, Risk and Technology to coordinate issue resolution for clients and the desk.
  • Proactive mindset, with the confidence to challenge existing processes and identify opportunities to improve control, efficiency and service quality.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to manage priorities, escalate effectively and provide clear updates to Sales, clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel; VBA, SQL or Python experience would be advantageous.
  • You may be assessed on the key critical skills relevant for success in role, such as risk and controls, change and transformation, business acumen, strategic thinking, digital and technology, as well as job-specific technical skills.

This role will be based at 1 Churchill Place, Canary Wharf, London.

Purpose of the role

To maintain the smooth and efficient operation of our trading desks, providing operational support and expertise to traders, sales professionals, and other key stakeholders, helping them maximize their productivity and minimize disruptions and handling administrative tasks, and providing market information and research. 

Accountabilities

  • Provision of immediate and efficient technical support to traders and sales professionals on the trading desks, resolving hardware, software, and network-related issues to ensure uninterrupted trading activities.
  • Coordination of trade execution by liaising with traders, clients, and other internal teams to ensure smooth transactions.
  • Maintenance and updating of trade records, transaction logs, and client databases accurately.
  • Reports, presentations, and documentation preparation to support sales and trading activities.
  • Monitoring of market data and assist in the analysis of financial information for trading decisions.
  • Operational tasks such as processing trades, confirming orders, and resolving trade discrepancies.

  • Identify ways to mitigate risk and developing new policies/procedures in support of the control and governance agenda.
  • Take ownership for managing risk and strengthening controls in relation to the work done.
  • Perform work that is closely related to that of other areas, which requires understanding of how areas coordinate and contribute to the achievement of the objectives of the organisation sub-function.
  • Collaborate with other areas of work, for business aligned support areas to keep up to speed with business activity and the business strategy.
  • Engage in complex analysis of data from multiple sources of information, internal and external sources such as procedures and practises (in other areas, teams, companies, etc).to solve problems creatively and effectively.
  • Communicate complex information. 'Complex' information could include sensitive information or information that is difficult to communicate because of its content or its audience.
  • Influence or convince stakeholders to achieve outcomes.
