Job Title: Data Modeler

Location: Chennai


This role will lead the effort across the Data Architecture team within USCB Data Platforms Data Analytics team to develop/implement data practices across its portfolio of applications. Managing incoming data modelling asks, tracking and delivering the DM asks, production incident/problem pipeline and small change backlog are also part of the responsibilities
•    Must be able to communicate effectively and influence stakeholders at all levels in the organisation. 
•    Act as a lead technical design authority for data components, providing logical, data driven solutions which meet the functional and non-functional requirements, in line with the relevant business and IT strategies.
•    Work with senior stakeholders in USCB Data Platforms team and with Wider Data Architecture teams to perform analysis of business processes, systems and data to evolve the Barclays Enterprise Logical Data Model. 
•    Provide architecture governance for change projects requiring data model change
•    Ensure that change projects understand how to map their existing Logical Models and Physical Schemas to the Barclays Enterprise Logical Data Model
What will you be doing?
Data Design (70%)
•    Design, implementation and maintenance of complex data models and data solutions, including conceptual, logical, operational and physical models. 
•    Serve as a data custodian to facilitate the resolution of business issues and develop enterprise data models and dictionaries, translating business needs into long-term architecture solutions.
•    Production of technical standards and guidelines for data and associated technologies, whilst assisting in the development of architectural roadmaps and other Enterprise Architecture in the data domain.
•    Providing architectural intervention and technical data leadership throughout the life cycle of development change programmes.
•    Exploit the current Enterprise Architecture, for the application of IT Strategy and ensuring architectural conformance through governance, enforcing the re-use of existing data structures, where appropriate, to minimise development time.
•    Able to actively participate in the evaluation of new technology packages
•    Collective ownership of the Enterprise Data Models, ensuring that they are maintained in a timely manner.
•    Maintains knowledge of relevant technical specialisms at the highest level, by reading appropriate literature, attending conferences and seminars, meeting and maintaining contact with other leading practitioners of the technical specialism and though playing a major role in appropriate learned, professional and trade bodies
•    Challenges business requirements and demands to ensure high quality candidate solutions are created and considered.
•    Apply innovative thinking to support the business in delivering its strategic objectives in line with Cluster and Group IT Strategies, rather than just responding to a pre-defined request
Build/Test Support (30%)
•    Maintenance of data models through build and test phases of the development life cycle.
•    Production of documentation that can be used to support the build and test phases
What we’re looking for:
•    Relevant years of Hands-on experience with RDBMS / Big Data technologies (Oracle, Teradata, HDFS, HIVE, Impala, Scala, Spark, PIG etc)
•    Experience in Relational Databases like Oracle, SQL Server and PL/SQL
•    Understanding of Agile methodologies as well as SDLC life-cycles and processes.
•    Strong Understanding of Data warehousing and lakes
•    Extensive experience in Data modelling along with Data architecture
•    Exposure to infrastructure architecture, cloud (AWS etc), and Spring framework and web technologies 
Skills that will help you in the role:
•    Familiar with at least one industry standard data design tool (e.g. ER Studio, EA Sparks, ERWIN)
•    Understands the concepts of data entities, attributes, relationships, normalisation; understands the use of advanced constructs including super-types/sub-types, self-referencing relationships and arcs
•    Can identify logical entities from a business scenario and determine full scope of relationship cardinalities including optionality; Build complex logical models featuring distinctions including identifying/non-identifying relationships, subtype discriminators
•    Good knowledge of at least one major RDBMS’ physical metadata capabilities.
•    Can build a basic physical schema and objects based on a provided logical model
•     Understand the inter-relationship of data tools and how these can improve data management maturity.
•    Can articulate the difference between logical and physical data models and their considerations
•    Derive data concepts from documented requirements
•    Ability to clarify requirements with stakeholders to resolve gaps, uncertainties and conflict
