Java Developer

As a Barclays Java Developer, you’ll participate in the end-to-end delivery of key Channel Services APIs and applications. Some key platforms (e.g. re-platforming of Client Reporting and re-strategize Prime Portal architecture to provide wide array or interfaces such as API, chat-bot and immersive container based GUI) and innovative solutions on client touch point require the role holder to be open to exploration on new technical areas and research.

What will you be doing?

• Development (60%) - advanced coding to build application and components as part of functional and non-functional requirements
• Design & Process (20%) – participating in and contributing on architectural strategy and design manifesting through visual
• Test Automation & DevOps (10%) – delivering software with high coverage on all levels of test pyramid; building code and delivering binary using continuous integration platform
• L3 support (10%) - support monitoring and troubleshooting of both production and non- production environments; addressing any client/ trader/ user queries promptly
• Handling production issues in matured way; providing/ implementing tactical solutions to minimize impact to business followed by strategic solutions
• Gaining hands-on experience of the top-to-bottom technologies of the stack or equivalent development area
• Working as a part of a global team across Glasgow, Hong Kong, US, India; having a critical seat in technical decisions in a collaborative team

What we’re looking for:

• Proven experience working with Java 8 or higher with focus on Lambda, concurrency and collections
• Previous experience in Spring Boot and Spring Cloud starters
• Previous development experience in enterprise scale Java/ Unix platform, with exposure to back end development and some front end development exposure
• Proven RDBMS experience and ability to perform relatively complex queries and PL/ SQL and performance tuning

Skills that will help you in the role:

• Experience on micro-frontend development
• Experience in tools: JIRA, SONAR, GIT, Team City/ Jenkins, Docker, AWS Cloud formation, AWS Cloud watch, Visual VM, Nexus
• Experience on container as a service like AWS ECS or Openshift
• Experience in learning complex business workflows
