Senior Java Developer

As a Barclays Senior Java Developer you will play a critical part in the development of the BARX Options platform, being responsible for developing and testing our platform. You will enhance the platform as part of a series of ambitious strategic growth initiatives for the Options business lines for the BARX platform. This is a part of a significant re-platforming effort to move the platform to a new grid compute based backend using the latest internally developed quantitative libraries.

What will you be doing?

• Working closely with Front Office Traders to understand new Trading requirements
• Providing demos of ongoing deliverables for feedback during the product development lifecycle
• Working closely with Sales and Traders to understand new Client requirements, and providing the ability to develop and deliver those solutions.
• Working closely with BAs and PMs, technical leads, QA testers and Quantitative Developers, to design, develop and deliver solutions
• Documenting new requirements in JIRA and progressing them as deliverables within the team
• Proactively participating in the wider BARX FX technical community on strategic platform enhancement initiatives
• Becoming an active participant in technical discussion meetings across multiple projects in the wider team as part of regular ongoing technical forums

What we’re looking for:

• Excellent Java programming skills with experience in designing and developing Swing based UI alongside REST API based microservices
• Experience of developing Java Swing UI GUI screens and working with UI Frameworks
• Experience of developing backend Java Services to interact with Java Swing UI GUI screens and experience of Java unit testing practices, ideally JUnit
• Extensive knowledge and experience of developing low-latency trading systems and knowledge of multi-threading development and performance tuning techniques

Skills that will help you in the role:

• Experience in designing and developing UI in HTML5 using Javascript, React UI Frameworks with Docker deployment based pipelines in a cloud based architecture
• Experience of working with a micro service architecture and grid compute technologies
• Proven experience in working in the Investment banking, working with directly with Traders, Desk Heads and Quantitative development teams
• Experience gained in Foreign Exchange Cash Spot and Forwards, NDF products, with extensive experience of Options/ Derivatives and Money Markets

5 North Colonnade is home to our investment bank and is in the heart of Canary Wharf, just a short walk from our headquarters at Churchill Place. It boasts an array of onsite amenities such as dry cleaner as well as a deli and buffet style staff restaurant. The building is easily accessible by tube, docklands light railway and all major bus links. The atmosphere is second to none with a real buzz being created around the offices within.
