Spain Financial Control team is responsible for financial statements preparation, Barclays Group reporting, Bank of Spain regulatory reporting, accounts payable and T&E, local tax (SII, VAT), for all Barclays entities in Spain, i.e. Barclays Bank Ireland PLC Spanish Branch, Barclays Tenedora de Inmuebles and BVP Galvani Global. Always in compliance with prevailing accounting and reporting regulation, under an appropriate risk and control framework.
Overall purpose of role
The role offers the opportunity to play an important finance role for Barclays in Spain. The main focus is on producing our local Tax reporting deliverables (SII reporting, VAT, taxes withheld), obtaining the necessary information from AP and T&E cycles and ensuring that it is complete and accurate. Role will also be involved in the preparation of Bank of Spain regulatory reporting (Anacredit). However, proactivity, collaboration and learning within the team is highly encouraged so the candidate will be involved in other finance activities, such as analytical review of the performance of the branch.
Key Accountabilities
We expect a high level of accountability and ownership within the following tasks to be fulfilled:
- Responsible for producing local Tax regulatory deliverables (daily SII reporting, monthly VAT and taxes withheld), ensuring completeness, accuracy and timeliness in all reports.
- Perform the relevant checks and reviews of tax deliverables, liaising with Tax representative in Spain for this purpose
- Monitor reconciliations performed by Centre of Excellence in India, both for invoices and travel&expense.
- Perform other off-cycle payments
- Education and support on purchase orders, accruals, invoice payment and T&E for local cost owners.
- Preparation of Bank of Spain regulatory reporting (Anacredit).
- Prepare information for Group requests and external audit.
Risk and Control Objective
As all Barclays colleagues, the candidate has to ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, Enterprise Wide Risk Management Framework and internal Barclays Policies and Policy Standards.
Essential Skills/Basic Qualifications:
- University degree in Business Administration, Accounting/Audit specialisation
- At least 2-3 years’ experience working in Banking/Finance industry or top tier consulting firm
- Fluency in English language
- Excellent organisational skills and a flexible and proactive work style with proven ability to meet tight timelines consistently
- Strong problem solving mindset with focus on controls. You will be comfortable performing analysis at a granular level of detail to ensure our deliverables are high quality, accurate and on time
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills. You will be comfortable working with and creating robust relationships with Barclays stakeholders from various countries (India, Ireland, UK, continental Europe).
Desirable skills/Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience in a Financial Control function at a top tier organisation
- Strong knowledge on tax reporting rules
- Experience in preparing accounting records and tax returns
- Experience in financial and regulatory systems architecture together with familiar tools used SAP, Excel
