Central Risk Book Senior Java Developer 
7th Ave, New York, New York


The Central Risk Book Senior Java Developer will be responsible for advancing the capabilities of our Central Risk Book Technology systems. The candidate will be responsible for working closely within the CRB technology team as well as desk traders / business analysts / service desk / quality assurance teams to deliver functional and technical enhancements to the product.  The candidate will ensure global application consistency and reuse where appropriate.  The candidate will be responsible for promoting and applying best practices to meet all application deliveries.

The candidate should have a technical background with a solid knowledge of application development, operating system behaviour, multi-threaded programming. They should also understand OS and architecture concepts like interrupts, multi-core systems, non-uniform memory access, CPU affinity. The candidate should also have experience with development methodologies, SLDC and management of technical teams.  

What will you be doing?

  • Work on several key systems in Barclays central risk platform, implement business features and technical improvements to meet tight performance requirements

  • Learn business behind Global cash equities trading, risk management and regulations applied on this business together with deep Java technical aspects such as garbage avoiding implementation of trading systems

  • Cooperate with business analysts, testing teams and developers of other parts of trading platform on local and global scale

  • Follow well organized and tight development process following agile/scrum and test driven development principals

  • Use fully integrated dev toolset from Attlassian such as Jira, Confluence and Bitbucket, TeamCity as continuous integration tool

  • Help application support teams to investigate production issues and do improvements to make the platform stable, maintainable and resilient

What we’re looking for:

  • Proficient (8+ years) with Core Java

  • Experience (2+ years) with, memory management, performance tuning

  • Experience (2+ years) in distributed system development including the use of messaging middleware such as Solace/Tibco/Kafka

  • University degree in computer science, physics, engineering, or equivalent programming experience

Skills that will help you in the role:

  • Experience with Java build tool, testing tools and Continuous Integration, ideally: Maven, JUnit, JMockit, TeamCity, Git

  • Experience mentoring other members of the team

  • Experience with development of equities trading systems including Order Management systems, risk management systems, FIX protocols, market data systems

  • Experience with dependency injections frameworks, ideally: Spring, Guice, HK2

  • Experience with Docker, Openshift, containers

  • Full lifecycle development of a commercial system, including: requirements definition, agile planning, releasing, and production support
