Join us as a Sr Automation Tester at Barclays where you will spearhead the evolution of our infrastructure and deployment pipelines, driving innovation and operational excellence. You will harness cutting-edge technology to build and manage robust, scalable and secure infrastructure, ensuring seamless delivery of our digital solutions. 

To be successful as a Sr Automation Tester, you should have experience with:

1.Automation Engineering Excellence an

  • Design and develop scalable automation frameworks (Selenium, BDD/TDD, Cucumber, API automation).
  • API automation using Rest Assured, Postman, Karate, or similar tools.
  • Strong programming proficiency in Java, Python, or similar languages.
  • Build reusable automation assets and accelerate regression execution.
  • Drive automation-first quality engineering practices.

CI/CD & Engineering Modernization

  • Integrate automation into CI/CD pipelines.
  • Promote shift-left testing and continuous quality practices.
  • Improve test execution efficiency, reliability, and release confidence.

Drive adoption of modern engineering and AI-assisted testing capabilities


2. Technical Expertise

  • Strong knowledge of:
    • Selenium and BDD frameworks
    • SQL/PL-SQL
    • API and integration testing
    • Unix/Linux
    • Jenkins, Git, DevOps tools
    • Test management tools such as Jira and Quality Center
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex testing and environment issues.

3. Test Strategy & Delivery Leadership

  • Define and own end-to-end test strategy, test plans, and quality approach.
  • Lead SIT, ST, OAT, UAT support, and regression testing activities.
  • Ensure quality outcomes across complex business and technology changes.
  • Provide delivery governance, RAID management, and release readiness assessments.

4. Risk, Controls & Quality Governance

  • Identify and mitigate testing risks early.
  • Ensure audit readiness, traceability, and regulatory compliance.
  • Drive defect prevention and root-cause analysis.
  • Establish quality metrics and continuous improvement mechanisms.

5. Stakeholder & Program Management

  • Manage engagements across Development, Business Analysis, Product, Operations, and Testing teams.
  • Influence decision-making through data-driven quality insights.
  • Effectively communicate risks, dependencies, and quality status to senior stakeholders.
  • Coordinate multiple global teams and vendors where required.

6.. Leadership & People Development

  • Mentor engineers and build automation capability across teams.
  • Conduct technical interviews and talent assessments.
  • Promote high-performance engineering culture.
  • Drive knowledge sharing and organizational capability growth.

7. Business & Domain Knowledge


For Payments/BFSI organizations, AVPs are expected to demonstrate:

  • Strong payment domain expertise (SWIFT, ISO 20022, XML, payment processing).
  • Understanding of end-to-end business flows and regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to translate business requirements into effective automation solutions.

  • Performance and non-functional testing exposure (JMeter, LoadRunner, Gatling).
  • Service virtualization, stubs, and mock services development.
  • Containerization and cloud-native testing (Docker, Kubernetes).

  • Familiarity with microservices architecture and event-driven systems.

DevOps & Platform Engineering

  • Jenkins pipeline development and CI/CD optimization.

The role is based out of Pune.

Purpose of the role

To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues. 

Accountabilities

  • Development and delivery of high-quality software solutions by using industry aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools. Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
  • Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
  • Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
  • Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organization’s technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
  • Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
  • Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.
