Investment Bank Middle Office (IBMO) is a global function within Barclays providing transaction management and settlement services across all asset classes to the businesses. Middle Office is non-revenue producing but is essential to managing risk and ensuring that transactions are executed correctly. They are considered an essential part of a company's infrastructure.
Overall Purpose of Role
The role holder will provide control and oversight functions to the Equity Financing, Strategic Transaction Group, Structured Financing and Strategic Investments businesses. In addition to this, the team partner with the businesses to develop robust and scalable operational support models for bespoke Financing trade strategies. Structures typically traded by this business are complex and span multiple asset classes (including Equity + Fixed Income Securities, Derivatives, FX, Credit and direct capital investments) and operational functions.
Key Accountabilities
- Performing an oversight function for bespoke strategies, ensuring that all transactions are handheld through pre-execution to settlement.
- Co-coordinating and implementing change initiatives to drive efficiency and enhance control framework
- Liaising with the structuring team to ensure that that any complex operational issues are identified escalated and resolved.
- Engaging Operations areas in a timely manner to ensure support for new trading activity both from a process and resource perspective
- Acting as liaison between Front Office and Support areas to ensure issues affecting business strategies are promptly resolved
- Performing daily reconciliations, ensuring breaks are kept to a minimum, escalating issues in a timely fashion to Management and the Front Office
- Effective and timely query management and issue resolution
- Contributing to and coordinating strategic projects from a Luxembourg Middle Office perspective, gathering and providing requirements, conducting testing and measuring benefits of solutions implemented
- Ensuring departmental controls across all functions are maintained by all team members and that controls are enhanced and adapted accordingly in line with new technology or changes to existing workflow and procedures
- Ensuring
all daily tasks performed by the team are executed in a timely and accurate manner with minimal errors
Decision-making and Problem Solving
The role holder must possess a desire to learn and apply their knowledge to complex operational issues. The role holder should have a logical approach when presented with such queries and be able to escalate when necessary and seek support, if needed, to ensure swift resolution of issues if they arise.
Risk and Control Objective
Ensureall activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, Enterprise Wide Risk Management Framework and internal Barclays Policies and Policy Standards.
Person Specification
Qualification / Education Preferred:
- 2.1 Degree or equivalent qualification
Experience Required:
- Previous experience in a similar role
- Strong Product Knowledge across Fixed Income, Derivatives, FX and Credit asset classes (Equity knowledge also preferable)
- Previous experience of autonomously driving change within their role, streamlining processes to increase control and capacity
- Previous active involvement in strategic IT projects – providing requirements, challenging solutions, coordinating and conducting UAT testing
- Strong track record of execution and results, high level of drive to meet deadlines and targets.
Experience Preferred:
Middle or Back Office experience
Project Management experience

- Motivated, self starter with experience of working in a high pressure environment
- Ability to prioritise, be flexible and respond to changing environments
- Excellent problem solving skills – ability to devise creative but workable solutions to complex operational issues
