Explore locationRole is the Engineering Lead (VP) for web based application development based in Pune. This role interfaces with many senior leaders across business lines, of which sit at Senior positions between CIO, Programme, Product, Platform other development teams and leads spanning various teams. It is vital that robust stakeholder management exists in this area together with snr technical leadership to ensure the development teams have the necessary oversight / quality control surrounding their roadmap and immediate backlog of work, agreeing lower level architecture decisions day to day, setting expectations on delivery / timelines, managing escalations, and agreeing MVPs / business outcomes.
- Be accountable for the design and development of effective software that meets given complex, strategic business needs for immediate team and broader Barclays strategies
- Recruit, mentor and manage an effective software engineering team
- Ensure alignment of the teams’ products and services with Barclays technology and architecture strategy
- Provide technical knowledge and insight to peers and colleagues
- Ensure the team’s approach to testing is fit for purpose
- Ensure integration of the software with monitoring and support tools
- Review and give constructive feedback on others’ code
- Support product and departmental managers in communicating strategy and product fit and effectiveness to stakeholders at all levels
- Ensure the team’s software works well in its operating environment
- Ensure troubleshooting and resolution of issues throughout the product life cycle including out of hours support for incident resolution
- Work with other technical leaders in the broader organisation to define, document and distribute best practice and standards
- Define, lead and encourage continuous improvement of the teams delivery and development processes
- Work with project, product leads to design software and create implementable specifications and tasks at product and roadmap level
- Learn new technologies and keep abreast of existing technologies and help introduce them where appropriate
- Expected to participate closely with technical delivery teams to ensure that the overall IT architecture and systems are developed and maintained in a coherent manner, and that appropriate considerations are made for security and quality; to ensure that application, data and technology.
- Work with the business on continuously improving process and technology solution in line with the Legal mission and strategy. Work with the wider team on solving technical and processing problems within the Legal function and promote continuous improvement.
- Work closely with technical delivery teams to advocate good architecture and development practices , and to identify and reduce technical debt by gathering detailed business requirements both Functional and Non Functional.
- Help define and document the current and architectural vision, including detailed roadmaps, and constantly monitor it to ensure it meets the organization’s needs and reflects changing technologies
- Clearly communicate to all stakeholders the overall delivery status and roadmap presenting the business case for key decisions
- Review application and architecture design (both internal and vendor based) ensuring adherence to Barclay’s standards, good practice and adhere to the architectural road-map
- Continuously research technical solutions that may positively impact on the business
- Exposure of Channel engineering architecture e.g. Online banking, Mobile Banking
- Proven ability to communicate with and advise technical delivery teams
- Broad exposure to a variety of IT disciplines such as infrastructure, database design, development of web and desktop applications, workflow, API development, messaging, deployment, etc
- Excellent understanding of the software development lifecycle e.g. waterfall, agile
- Full stack software design experience: desktop and web user interfaces, applications servers, API's, database design, etc.
- Comfortable working closely with remote teams, driving progress and shaping end products.
- Working with Enterprise and Lead Architects, and participating in group wide technical discussion
- Working knowledge of change control, release management procedures
- Exposure to Tools including Jira, Wiki, Confluence
- Demonstrable experience of the hands on design of detailed Software Solutions
- Analytical and methodical approach to problem solving
- Multi-tasker / skilled at balancing parallel workloads
- Ability to identify, attempt to rectify and appropriately escalate issues and risks
- Precise (attention to detail)
- Self-starter who can be responsible for managing own deliverables
- Extensive experience designing and writing robust software for large scale applications in a fast changing environment with rapid release cycles
- Expertise in mainstream development frameworks
- Expertise with mainstream development and deployment tool chains
- Expertise in web architecture and key technologies (HTTP, DNS, distributed design)
- Expertise in test driven development and broader testing and QA concerns
- Leadership experience of project working and professional software development processes, including agile
- Expertise in choosing and applying design patterns
- Effective leadership and collaboration inside and beyond the team. The ability to influence diverse and senior stakeholders effectively
- Takes responsibility for driving products and system to success
